| Starting my week of "community engagement". Activities for this week include volunteering to serve breakfast at a food pantry, going on a police ride-along, etc., to familiarize ourselves with community resources. One such resource: Harm Reduction Services (for ex: they run a needle exchange program). Directions for this activity: "corner of ____ and _____ streets. Look for a blue van and a woman named Michelle." |
i don't remember what color the van was, but i remember michelle being LATE... so i took it upon myself to wander around and look for her. the directions i got from the volunteers were to go to "Friendship Park", which is where all the homeless peeps hang out and where i got hollered at multiple times and where the locals wanted to be by "friends" (wink wink). AWE-SOME time, it was NOT!
